Woven badges are produced by interlacing yarns (warp and weft) at precise 90-degree angles. This allows exceptional clarity for small text and fine detail, but it also means the fabric behaves as a structured grid rather than a free-flowing stitch.

Because of this, certain design features — such as multiple very thin borders (especially a fine line placed just inside a Merrow or satin border) — require careful technical review. Without this, the loom’s linear nature can cause curved borders to “step” (like pixels), and the tension required to weave fine parallel lines can subtly pull the fabric, making borders look wobbly or uneven rather than clean and concentric.

Our free mock-up stage is not just a visual preview — it is a compatibility check to confirm your design will weave cleanly and consistently. This is followed by production sample approval, so the final batch matches the approved structure, detail, and finish before full manufacture begins.

Why Choose Woven Badges?

Unlike embroidered badges, woven badges use thinner threads woven tightly together. Because of this, they can reproduce fine lines and small lettering that embroidery cannot handle cleanly.

  • Sharper detail and clearer text
  • Smooth, flat finish
  • Consistent results across large quantities
  • Ideal for logos, name patches and branding

Durable Construction & Backing

To ensure longevity, our woven badges are supplied with a high-quality glue backing as standard. This reinforces the structure of the badge and helps it maintain its shape and colour even with regular use.

The finished patch remains flexible yet durable, making it suitable for uniforms, workwear, promotional garments and accessories.

Experience, Quality & Approval Control

With decades of industry experience, we have produced woven badges for organisations with a wide range of requirements. From the initial artwork stage to final production, every order is handled through a structured approval process to ensure accuracy before manufacturing begins.

We use modern production methods and controlled workflows to manage colour, sizing and layout consistently. This approach allows us to deliver dependable results while maintaining high quality standards on every order.

Place your trust in a proven woven badge manufacturer.

Woven patches use thinner threads that are woven together so they are ideal when a design is too detailed or complex to be achieved with the embroidery process.

Woven badges are the perfect solution when you need the extra fine detail that embroidered badges can’t provide.

Here are some other key benefits of ordering woven badges with Embroidery Badge:

UK Suppliers

We offer the flexibility to manufacture your badge either in the UK or in our overseas factories, depending on your needs. We take full responsibility for the production and quality control process, ensuring that your badge meets our high standards of excellence. You can trust us to deliver a superior product that meets your expectations, no matter where it is manufactured.

Fine Detail

Woven badges show small lettering and extra fine details that do not reproduce well on embroidered badges.

Cost-effective

Woven badges offer more detail than embroidered badges and are perfect for complex designs. They are cost-effective, especially for volume orders, and have a minimum order quantity of 25 units. EMBROIDERYBADGE.UK provides complete control over the review and approval process and stores information on completed orders for easy repeat ordering. Consider border type and backing when placing your order.

In simple terms

Definition:
Woven badges are fabric patches made by weaving fine threads together, resulting in a flat, smooth finish with very high detail.

Best for:
They are best for logos, text-heavy designs, and detailed artwork where clarity and sharp edges matter more than a raised texture.

Not ideal for:
They are not ideal if you want a bold, raised, or heavily stitched look. For a thicker, textured finish, embroidered badges are usually a better choice.

Pricing and lead times

Because every design is unique, pricing is bespoke and calculated based on your artwork, size, colour count, and quantity. Current estimated turnaround times are displayed live on this page; please request a quote for a final confirmed price and schedule.

Placing an order for badges can be stressful, especially when working with a new company. But at Embroidery Badge UK, we’ve streamlined the process to make it easy and mistake-proof. Here’s how it works:

Step 1: Complete our form and click the “Get a Quote” button. We’ll guide you through all the available options, including borders and backing.

Step 2: Our experienced design and production team will create a free mockup based on your requirements, along with a bespoke price quote.

Step 3: Once you approve the mockup, you can make a payment. You may either pay in full or pay for a production sample. If you choose the sample option, the sample fee will be deducted from the final invoice should you proceed with full production.

Step 4: We’ll produce a sample badge, scan it, and upload it for your approval. This allows you to see exactly what your production badges will look like before placing the final order. Once approved and payment is complete, production will begin and your order will be dispatched within the agreed timeframe.

Frequently Asked Questions — Custom Woven Badges

Ordering & Approval

Do you have a minimum order quantity?

Yes. The minimum order quantity for woven badges is 25 pieces per design. Prices reduce significantly at higher quantities, which is why many customers order extras for future garments, bags, towels, or replacements.

Can I order more than one logo to make up the 25 badges?

No. The minimum order quantity applies per design. Each design variation — including size, colours, borders, or backing — is treated as a separate product and must meet the 25-piece minimum.

Can I amend my design?

Yes. You have full control over amendments during the digital mock-up approval stage. Changes at this stage are free. Once the design moves beyond mock-up approval, further amendments may incur additional charges.

Can I cancel my order?

You may cancel without charge during the digital mock-up stage. If you proceed to the production sample stage, a setup fee applies and is non-refundable. Once the physical sample is approved and full payment is made, cancellation is no longer possible as production will begin.

Can you help with artwork or low-quality designs?

Yes. We specialise in artwork preparation and rescue. High-resolution files are ideal, but we can also work from JPEG, PNG, AI, or PDF files. Our team refines your artwork during the mock-up stage to ensure it weaves cleanly and accurately.

Can I repeat a previous order?

Yes. All completed orders are stored in your online account, making repeat orders fast, consistent, and accurate.

Technical & Production Insights

What sizes are available for woven badges?

Woven badges can be produced from 20 mm up to 200 mm. For clarity, text should be at least 2 mm high to remain legible in the weave.

What colours can I choose?

Please refer to our woven thread chart for colour selection. If you choose a merrow border, the corresponding merrow thread chart applies. Providing Pantone or reference colours helps us achieve the closest possible match.

What is your recommended solution for woven borders?

Woven badges are produced on a loom using interlaced warp and weft yarns arranged in a fixed grid. While this allows exceptional detail, very thin woven borders can vary slightly in thickness due to loom tension and the linear nature of weaving.

Our Recommended Production Solution:
We weave the design to the very edge of the badge and then apply a satin stitch or merrow border. This creates a stable, clean outline and eliminates the risk of uneven or distorted borders.

This recommendation is always confirmed during the approval stage and, where required, finalised at the production sample stage before full manufacture begins.

When should I choose woven instead of embroidered badges?

Woven badges are the correct choice when your design contains very fine detail, small lettering, or intricate line work. While embroidery generally requires text to be 4 mm or larger, woven badges can retain clarity at 2–3 mm. They are also thinner and lighter, making them ideal for lightweight garments.

Can I see my badge before full production?

Yes. Every order follows a two-step approval process. First, you approve a digital mock-up. Then, we produce and share photographs of an actual woven sample for final approval before mass production begins.

Can I order a physical sample?

Yes. A physical sample can be produced after mock-up approval. A sample fee applies and is deducted from the final invoice if you proceed with full production. Please note that requesting a physical sample adds approximately 9 days to delivery.

How strong is the heat-seal (iron-on) backing?

We use industrial-grade, OEKO-TEX® certified adhesive. Because woven badges are thinner, they bond efficiently to fabric. For garments that undergo frequent washing, we recommend stitching for a permanent mechanical bond.

Can heat-sealed woven badges be removed?

Yes. Removal requires reheating slightly above the original application temperature. Adhesive residue will remain, so replacement badges should be at least 5 mm larger. Always test on a sample garment first.

Why do you stitch Hook & Loop backings?

Heat-bonded backings can fail under repeated pull stress. We physically stitch Hook & Loop backings to the woven badge to ensure long-term durability and reliability.

How do I care for woven badges?

Woven yarns are highly colourfast. To preserve the weave structure, follow our Rule of Three: cold wash only, wash inside out, and avoid tumble drying.
