Badge Types

Delivery times for the badge options are stated below.

Please note – all delivery dates are calculated from the customer’s final approval. For the physical proofs it will take the same amount of time. If customer requests a physical proof, the cost in hand, will be £35 plus postage. However, we are happy to waive this once the order is confirmed.

Woven Badges – 15 day delivery

Since woven patches use thinner threads that are woven together instead of embroidered onto a fabric, they are ideal when a design is too detailed or complex to be achieved with the embroidery process.

Embroidered Badge – 7 day delivery

An embroidered badge is produced onto a base cloth by a stitching process; it results in a textured and raised design effect.

Combination Badge – 15 day delivery

We can combine the embroidery and woven badges to produce a combination badge where the intricate portions or extremely small text can be woven and the rest embroidered Please note that some designs may NOT be suitable for combination badges.

Laser Cut Layered – 7 day delivery

100% polyester twill cut with a laser cutter which sears the edges producing a custom cut that will not fray and using a permanent adhesive that allows the design to be heat pressed without embroidery.

Woven labels – 15 day delivery

These are typical clothing labels for your brand. Also known as Tax Tags or beck labels, Woven Labels are essential to help establish a strong brand image for you in the industry.

Labels are available in the following height(no limitation for width) 12mm/17mm/20mm/25mm/33mm/50mm/67mm Your artwork must provide for a 2-5mm bleed
Up to 8 colors possible in a design
Taffeta Damask or satin materials available
Labels can be Finished in a roll form, hot cut, end fold or center fold Iron On or self adhesive labels are also available.

Antique Leather Badge – 7 day delivery

Antique leather badges are actually made of Faux leather. The antique look is achieved by laser etching the actual design on the badge.

The badge can be cut in any shape possible and is generally applied by applique.

Weave Options

A flat weave is simple weaving technique that uses lesser coverage.

Machine Applique Designs

What do you mean by machine applique designs?

If you have a heavy stitch count design, You can order a woven or a embroidered patch that can be attached to the garment via your embroidery machine. We also provide you with a border stitch template file that allows you to position your patch on your garment and sew a border over the edges.

Machine applique badges are the most cost effective and time effective solution for large fill or large stitch count designs
These are now very popular since the large Football teams such as Manchester United started using a woven badge applique on their logos instead of 100% embroidery
As you will be only embroidering the outline there is no “embroidery rash” irritation to the wearer
We will supply you with the embroidery outline file to attach the badge to your

Background Material

100% Embroidery

Where the entire logo including the background is filled with stitches.

The layered applique design is created by cutting a single or multiple layer of polyester twill fabric.

Some Visible Fabric

The badge has some visible fabric (typically the background of the design will be a fabric)

Embroidery Type

3D Badges

3D foam (3D Puff) is a technique where foam is inserted under the embroidery stitching. This results in the surface being raised or “puffed” look giving a three- dimensional appearance to your embroidery designs. The 3D foam effect is commonly used on garments that don’t require much washing and is most popular on caps

Chenille Badges

In North America chenille embroidery is most commonly recognized on emblems and letters sewn on letterman’s jackets. It produces a Towel loop type of effect on your logos.

Embroidered Badge

An embroidered badge is produced onto a base cloth by a stitching process; it results in a textured and raised design effect.

Laser Cut Layered – Layers

1 Layer

In case of a single color applique design choose 1 layer only.

Once you choose one layer you will then be prompted to select the fabric and colour for that layer.

2 Layers

2 layer applique is when you lay one layer of fabric on top of the other.

Once you choose two layered applique you need to select the fabric and colours for both layers.

3 Layers

3 layer applique is when you lay three layers of fabric on top of the other.

Once you choose 3 layered applique you will then be prompted to select the fabric and colours for all three layers.

Felt

The design is created using felt fabric or multiple layers of felt fabrics You have to choose the felt fabric colour from

Twill

The layered applique design is created by cutting a single or multiple layer of polyester twill fabric

Edge / Border

No Border

A very large percentage of of the orders that we do for woven badges are without borders, the same is also possible for for badges that are embroidered with felt as a base fabric. If you are looking at ordering a badge to be used as a applique.

Backing Types

No Backing

Embroidered patches can be made without a backing. (In fact, they start out that way.) These patches will show the twill or threads on the back of the patch, and they are generally more flexible. Patches without backings do not have the same thickness or stiffness as patches with backings; therefore, the best time to order patches without backings is when they will be sewn onto garments or other types of fabrics.

Non Woven Backing

Nonwoven backing is similar to what’s used in logo embroidery on any embroidery machine.

Hook-Sided Velcro Backing

Velcro backings tend to be used in military applications such as morale patches, where removing and reapplying patches happens frequently. Hook and loop fasteners are available in one side or two sides. If your uniform or garment already has a loop fastener area, one-sided Velcro is the best choice. One-sided Velcro is our most popular Velcro option, comprising upward of 95% of Velcro orders. As you can see, we offer Velcro backing in other colours besides black, including—but not limited to—OD green, brown, and shades of gray.

Adhesive Backing

An adhesive backing is a non-permanent option when applied to fabric or clothing; therefore, it is best for a single event. Although the glue is much stronger than what you will find on an average paper sticker, it will not withstand a cycle in the washing machine, and it will also weaken over time. For permanent application, order your custom patches with plastic or no backing and sew them to your garment. Also known as peel and stick, adhesive, in a sense, turns your patch into an embroidered sticker. A glue is pressed onto the back of the patch, then is overlaid with paper to be peeled off at the time of use.

Heatseal Backing

Also known as iron-on, heatseal allows patch application to a garment using a home iron. Heat seal backings add some stiffness to patches, allowing them to lay flat. Some patch companies rate their iron-on backing for 20-30 washes, while others, including EMBROIDERYBADGE.COM, use more robust adhesives to achieve 50-80 washing cycles. When using heatseal, it is advisable to sew a few stitches first, in order to hold the patch in place. Heat seal doesn’t work with nylon or other synthetic fabrics.

Plastic Backing

Plastic backing adds stiffness and support to the patch, allowing it to stay flat over time, while still leaving the patch thin enough to be sewn onto a garment. EMBROIDERYBADGE.COM includes plastic backing at no extra charge. Plastic can be used with any patch, regardless of size, shape, or border type.
