Faux chenille badges are engineered to recreate the depth and visual impact of traditional Letterman-style chenille patches, while using controlled embroidery stitching instead of tufted yarn. As a result, they are ideal for designs that need structure and texture without the heavy weight or high minimums associated with classic chenille.
Engineered Texture
Unlike standard flat embroidery, faux chenille uses a specialised stitch-lift technique. By coordinating multi-layered thread density over a hidden structure, the embroidery is forced to rise off the surface. Therefore, you get a tactile, plush “pop” that visually mimics traditional chenille from a distance.
Detail & Stability
Because faux chenille is digitally programmed thread-work, it allows cleaner outlines and better detail control than looped yarn. Fine lines remain more legible, borders stay sharper, and the stitched texture is locked in place. As a result, there is no shedding, fraying, or fluff migration over time.
In Simple Terms
Definition:
Faux chenille badges are embroidered patches designed to replicate the soft, textured look of traditional chenille. However, instead of tufted yarn, they are made using embroidery thread stitched over a felt base. This allows more control, cleaner edges, and greater flexibility.
Best for:
Faux chenille badges work best for bold designs that need a plush, varsity-style appearance. At the same time, they allow sharper lines, more colour flexibility, and better detail than traditional chenille patches.
Not ideal for:
They are not suitable for very small text, ultra-fine outlines, or highly intricate artwork. If maximum precision is required, woven badges or standard embroidered badges are usually the better choice.
Pricing and Lead Times
Every faux chenille badge is made to order. Pricing is bespoke and calculated based on size, stitch coverage, colour count, and quantity. Estimated turnaround times are displayed live on this page; however, final pricing and delivery are confirmed after artwork review and approval.

Ordering & Brand Reassurance
What is the minimum order quantity?
The minimum order quantity for faux chenille badges is 25 pieces per design. Ordering higher quantities usually reduces the cost per badge and is common for teams, clubs, or repeat use.
Can I order more than one design?
Yes. However, the minimum order applies per design. If you require two different designs, each must meet the 25-piece minimum.
Can I cancel my order?
You can cancel free of charge at the digital mock-up stage. Once you approve the mock-up and a physical sample is commissioned, the setup fee becomes non-refundable. After final sample approval and production begins, cancellation is no longer possible.
Can you help with urgent deadlines or low-quality artwork?
Yes. Every file is manually reviewed by our team. We can often redraw low-resolution artwork and will advise honestly if your deadline is achievable before proceeding.
Expert Production Insights
What text size stays legible on faux chenille badges?
Because faux chenille uses a raised stitch structure, lettering should be at least 4–5 mm high to remain clear. For smaller text or intricate detail, woven or printed badges are usually a better choice.
Why do you recommend borders?
Merrow or satin borders help stabilise the edge of the badge, especially around raised areas. This prevents distortion and ensures a clean, consistent outline. Laser-cut edges are available for specific shapes where suitable.
Are Velcro backings stitched or heat-sealed?
Velcro (hook & loop) backings are stitched on, not just heat-sealed. This creates a stronger mechanical bond and prevents peeling during wear or washing.
How should faux chenille badges be cared for?
We recommend cold washing, turning garments inside out, and avoiding tumble drying. This helps preserve the raised texture and colour over time.
Can I get a physical sample before full production?
Most customers approve from high-resolution sample photos. However, if you prefer a physical sample, we can provide one for a fee. Please note that this can add up to 9 days to the overall delivery timeline.
