Custom Chenille Badges and Patches with a Two-Step Approval Process

Chenille badges and patches deliver a bold, raised texture that adds warmth and character to garments. Consequently, they remain a trusted choice for varsity jackets, sweaters, uniforms, and premium fashion collections where visual impact matters.

Furthermore, with 35+ years of embroidery experience and over 1.5 million designs digitised, we understand exactly how artwork behaves when stitched using chenille yarn. Because chenille uses a lofty pile stitch, experience—not automation—determines whether a design succeeds.

At EmbroideryBadge.uk, specialists review every design manually. In contrast to automated systems, a human-eye review allows us to identify potential blurring, yarn spread, or spacing issues early. As a result, we prevent costly mistakes before the first stitch is laid.

We produce each chenille patch to your exact size and layout. In addition, we stitch premium chenille yarn onto a durable felt base to ensure long-term structure, colour retention, and consistency. When suitable, we can also offer environmentally responsible yarn and production options.

  • Premium chenille yarns stitched onto durable felt backing
  • Design reviews completed by embroidery specialists, not software
  • Free digital mockup with clear, practical design guidance
  • Optional environmentally responsible production methods

Why Choose Chenille Badges?

Chenille badges and patches stand out because of their soft, raised texture and traditional appearance. Additionally, the plush surface creates strong contrast at distance, which works especially well on letterman jackets and varsity-style garments.

Our production process combines premium chenille yarn with a robust felt base. Therefore, you achieve the classic chenille look without compromising durability or wear resistance.

Combining Chenille with Standard Embroidery

In some cases, designs benefit from combining chenille with traditional embroidery. For example, chenille can create a bold, 3D texture for main shapes, while flat embroidery adds clarity to smaller text or sharper outlines.

Consequently, this mixed approach allows greater flexibility without sacrificing legibility. Our specialists will advise if this method improves your final result.

Ensuring Design Suitability

Important: Not every logo translates well into chenille badges and patches.

Because chenille uses a lofty pile stitch, extremely fine outlines and small details can soften or merge as the yarn blends during stitching. Therefore, design suitability checks are essential before production begins.

The Thumb Rule

Print your logo at the final patch size. Then, review the smallest elements carefully.

If your thumb comfortably covers each detail, chenille usually works well. However, if an element is thinner than your thumb, it may blur once stitched.

What Works Best

For best results, use bold shapes, thicker lettering, and open areas. Specifically, generous spacing improves clarity and often reduces production costs.

Every chenille badge includes a felt base. Therefore, background colour selection plays a critical role. Choose an appropriate option from our

In simple terms

Definition:
Chenille badges are fabric patches made using thick yarn stitched into a felt base, creating a soft, fluffy, textured finish often associated with varsity and letterman-style garments.

Best for:
They are best for bold designs with large shapes, thick lettering, and open areas, where texture and visual impact matter more than fine detail.

Not ideal for:
They are not ideal for small text, thin outlines, or intricate details, as the fluffy chenille yarn can soften or merge fine elements. In these cases, embroidered or woven badges are usually a better choice.

Pricing and lead times

Because every chenille design is unique, pricing is bespoke and calculated based on size, design suitability, yarn coverage, and quantity. Current estimated turnaround times are displayed live on this page; please request a quote for a final confirmed price and delivery schedule.

Why Design Review Matters for Chenille

Because chenille badges use a lofty pile stitch, artwork behaves differently compared to flat embroidery or woven patches. Consequently, designs that look sharp on screen can soften once stitched.

For this reason, our embroidery specialists manually review every chenille design before sampling begins. As a result, we identify spacing risks, lettering issues, and yarn spread early, preventing avoidable delays or redesign costs later.

How Chenille Pricing Is Calculated

Pricing for chenille badges is based on practical production factors, including:

  • Final badge size
  • Yarn coverage and stitch density
  • Design suitability for chenille stitching
  • Total quantity ordered

Because chenille production is labour-intensive, higher quantities offer better value. Therefore, many customers see significant savings when ordering 300 pieces or more.

Our Two-Step Approval Process

We use a strict two-step approval process to ensure accuracy and avoid surprises.

Step 1: Digital Mockup Approval
We provide a computer-generated mockup showing layout, proportions, and design elements. At this stage, you can request amendments free of charge.

Step 2: Production Sample Photo
Once approved, we create a stitched chenille sample and share a photograph of the actual badge. Only after this second approval do we proceed with full production.

Consequently, you remain in control from artwork review through to final manufacturing.

Helpful Ordering Tips

  • Review approvals on a high-resolution (retina) screen.
  • Do not print approval images to judge colour accuracy.
  • Provide Pantone colour references where possible.
  • Using the same chenille badge across multiple garments improves value.

Ordering in bulk provides significant savings. The more you order, the lower the cost per chenille patch becomes. Many customers also reuse the same chenille badge across multiple garments to maximise value.

Choose Embroiderybadge.uk for a smooth, reliable chenille badge ordering experience, backed by expert guidance at every step.

Frequently Asked Questions: Chenille Badges and Patches

What is the minimum order quantity?
Our minimum order quantity is 25 badges per design. However, prices typically reduce as you order more. Consequently, many customers order extras to keep as spares or to use on additional items such as gym bags, towels, and team kit.

Can I order more than one logo to make up the 25 badges?
No. The minimum is 25 pieces per design. Therefore, if you want two designs, you need 25 pieces of each. This includes any variation in size, colours, border, base material, or layout.

Can I have very fine text or small details in chenille?
Chenille uses a thick, lofty yarn. Consequently, it does not suit very fine text, thin outlines, or intricate details because the pile can soften or merge small elements. If you need detail, we often recommend a mixed media approach—chenille for bold areas and standard embroidery for finer text or sharper outlines.

What if my design is too complex for chenille?
We protect your brand first. Therefore, if the design will look crowded, blurry, or messy in chenille, we will tell you honestly at the digital mockup stage and recommend a better option before sampling begins.

What is the difference between chenille and “faux chenille”?
Traditional chenille uses yarn loops to create a plush, carpet-like texture. In contrast, faux chenille recreates a similar look using specialist embroidery techniques with standard thread. As a result, faux chenille often suits smaller details better, sits flatter, and usually delivers faster turnaround.

Are chenille patches washable?
Yes. We stitch chenille yarn onto a heavy-duty felt base for durability. However, to maintain the “loft” (fluffiness), we recommend washing garments inside out on a cool cycle and avoiding high-heat tumble drying.

Why do chenille patches usually have a felt base or felt border?
Chenille yarn grips best on a stable, fibrous base such as felt. Additionally, felt provides the classic heritage look associated with varsity and letterman garments. We offer a wide range of felt shade options so you can match the background to your garment.

What sizes can I choose for chenille badges?
Chenille badges can be made up to 250mm. The practical minimum is typically around 60mm. Because chenille is “fuzzy” by nature, we also recommend larger lettering and thicker shapes for best clarity.

What colours can I choose?
You can select colours using our shade charts. For example, you can choose felt or twill background colours, chenille yarn colours, and merrow border thread colours if required. Furthermore, if you have Pantone references, please share them because they help us colour-match more accurately.

Can I get a chenille patch with Hook & Loop (Velcro) backing?
We can offer various backings. However, because chenille patches are thicker and heavier than standard patches, we generally recommend sew-on or heat seal so the badge stays flush and does not sag on jackets or sweaters.

Can I see a photograph of the finished badge before full production?
Yes. We follow a two-step approval process. First, we share a digital mockup for your approval. Then, we stitch a production sample and share a photo of the actual chenille badge. Consequently, you stay in control before we manufacture the full quantity.

What is Digital Mock-up approval?
Digital mockup approval is Step 1 of our process. We create a computer-generated mockup to confirm layout, spacing, and key design elements. In addition, changes at this stage are typically free. Once you approve, we move to the production sample stage.

What is the Production / Physical Sample Approval Process?
Production sample approval is Step 2. We stitch your chenille badge and share a photo of the real sample. Therefore, you can check the final look before we produce the full order. If you request changes after Step 2, additional charges and delays may apply because the process returns to Step 1 again.

Can I get a physical sample badge posted to me?
Yes. Most customers approve via photos, however you can request a physical sample. The cost is £35 + VAT plus tracked and signed postage from Brentwood, UK. Please note that a posted sample can add up to 9 days to the final delivery timeline.

Can I amend the design at any time?
Yes, you can request amendments up to the digital mockup approval stage. However, changes after this stage may incur charges, and they can also delay delivery.

Can I cancel at any time?
You can cancel without charge during the digital mockup stage. Once you approve the mockup and pay the setup charge for a production sample, the setup charge becomes non-refundable. After you approve the production sample and pay in full, you become liable for costs incurred, including setup and any applicable postage.

Can I add any artwork?
Yes, in most cases. Please provide a high-resolution file such as PNG or JPEG. Alternatively, we can use PDF or AI files. Consequently, clear artwork helps us produce a more accurate mockup and sample.

Can I repeat an order later?
Yes. We store completed order information on your online account, so repeat orders are straightforward.

How can I contact you for help?
Use LiveChat (9am–9pm GMT). If we miss you, leave a message and we will respond. Alternatively, email sales@embroiderybadge.uk or call 0800 368 7414.
