Made-in-the-UK PU Leather Badges: Everything You Need to Know
We’re excited to announce a product that we’ve been working on behind the scenes for quite some time.
Very soon, Embroidery Badge UK will be launching our new range of faux leather badges, engraved, cut, quality checked, packed, and dispatched from our Harrow facility.
This is a product we’re genuinely proud of. There’s something satisfying about taking a customer’s artwork, transforming it into a finished badge, carefully checking it, packing it, and sending it out from the same workshop.
If you’re considering custom leather badges for clothing, hats, workwear, or promotional merchandise, here’s everything you need to know.
What Are Faux (PU) Leather Badges?
Faux leather badges are badges manufactured from high-quality PU (polyurethane) leather rather than genuine animal leather.
Modern PU leather badges have become increasingly popular because they provide a clean, consistent appearance while being suitable for a wide range of applications. They offer the look and feel of leather while maintaining excellent consistency from badge to badge.
These badges are engraved rather than embroidered or printed, creating a distinctive finish that works particularly well with bold logos, strong typography, and simple artwork.

Why Choose PU Leather Instead of Real Leather?
One of the most common questions we receive is whether our badges are made from genuine leather.
The answer is no.
Our badges are manufactured using high-quality PU material and are therefore faux leather patches rather than genuine leather products.
Many customers actively choose custom PU leather patches because they offer:
- Consistent colour and appearance
- Excellent durability
- A clean engraved finish
- Lower material variation
- A vegan-friendly alternative to genuine leather
For many clothing brands, workwear suppliers, and promotional companies, faux leather provides an excellent balance between appearance, practicality, and consistency.
Made in Our Harrow Facility
Our new range of UK made leather badges is produced from our Harrow facility.
Each badge is:
- Engraved
- Cut
- Quality checked
- Packed
- Dispatched
We’ve invested a lot of time into developing this product and refining the process. Being able to oversee the project from artwork approval through to dispatch allows our team to ensure each order receives the attention it deserves.
We’re genuinely excited to be adding this product to the Embroidery Badge UK range.
Available Colours
At launch, our faux leather badges will be available in three colours!
Black
A clean and professional option that works particularly well for fashion brands, corporate uniforms, and modern logo designs.

Saddle Tan
A traditional leather-style colour that offers a classic and timeless appearance.

Rawhide
A lighter natural-looking shade that works beautifully with vintage-inspired branding and outdoor lifestyle products.
As demand grows, we may introduce additional colours in the future.

Backing Options Explained
Different customers have different application requirements, which is why we’ll be offering four backing options.
Sewing Channel
Our sew on leather badges can be supplied with a sewing channel, allowing the badge to be stitched securely to garments while maintaining a clean appearance.
Sewing Channel + Heat Seal Backing
This option combines stitching security with the convenience of temporary positioning during application.
Heat Seal Backing
Our heat seal leather badges are designed for customers who prefer to apply badges using a heat press.
Temporary Adhesive Backing
A temporary adhesive backing can help hold the badge in position before sewing or final application.
If you’re unsure which backing is best for your project, our team will be happy to advise.
PU Leather Badges for Clothing, Hats and Workwear
One reason custom leather patches for clothing have become so popular is their versatility.
These badges work particularly well on:
- Hoodies
- Jackets
- Workwear
- Beanies
- Caps
- Backpacks
- Sports bags
- Promotional products
In particular, custom leather patches for hats have become increasingly popular with outdoor brands, lifestyle companies, breweries, clubs, and apparel businesses looking for a premium appearance.
The engraved finish offers a distinctive alternative to embroidery while remaining lightweight and durable.
How Long Will Production Take?
Because these badges are produced in-house, you can typically expect dispatch within approximately 10–14 days from final approval, depending on the quantity ordered.
Larger quantities may require additional production time, and we’ll always advise if a particular project requires a different schedule.
Designing for Faux Leather Badges
One of the most important things to understand is that faux leather engraving is different from embroidery, woven badges, or printed patches.
The best results are usually achieved with:
- Bold logos
- Clear text
- Strong shapes
- Good contrast
- Simple artwork
Avoid Extremely Small Text
Very small text can become difficult to reproduce clearly during the engraving process.
If text is too small, it may lose clarity or become difficult to read.
Avoid Excessively Fine Detail
Artwork containing very thin lines, tiny decorative elements, or intricate patterns may not engrave as clearly as expected.
When in doubt, simpler designs almost always produce stronger results.
